So much has been happening in this world that we live in and impacting our most precious commodity, the children.
Hard as I might it can be difficult to not get caught up in all the politics and all that goes with it.
As many of you know, breast cancer is my passion and my primary focus. Being an educator by nature, I spent a lot of time trying to help students succeed. Tried to get so much of my excess materials into the hands of those that need and can use what i have to offer. That didn't go so well and I was stuck. Just sitting wondering why I couldn't move this bulk of "valuable" materials.
So I've stopped trying and redirected my focus to hosting an event to benefit children.
I came up with this idea of a Reading Day Marathon to share what I have and get it into the hands of those that would benefit the most, the children.
I think calling it a benefit will let others know that there is a recipient that will do just that, benefit from their participation. to help me get more than what I have, I've started a Go Fund me posting. This will help me get more books for all the participants.
Helping children 2READ, is where individuals can go to make donations to me accomplish this part of the task. So share with everyone you know to make a donation of as little or as much as you like.
The benefit will be held on September 28th, 2013, Reading Day Marathon. Reading is a fundamental tool that is needed by all, children most importantly. Far too many children don't have this opportunity at their fingertips and we can change that.
R.E.A.D. is all about Reading to Explore Adventures and Dreams. Help children to develop reading skills and a love of reading by allowing access to books in their homes. Many of us had books we read as children and had as favorites. Remember the joy that came from reading a good book, looking at the pictures and allowing our imaginations to run free. The joy of reading is the many adventures you can take that doesn't cost a dime. Visiting places that you've seen on the television or in movies but have no idea where they are. The creativity the comes from a mind that is stimulated through words and pictures. Unfortunately, many children don't have that accessibility. There are many homes where children don't have books, access to them and/or access to the library. This is an opportunity to provide children the option to choose books of their very own. The opportunity to travel far distances and experience adventures beyond their wildest dreams. The opportunity to dream. Books they can read as often as they like and enjoy repeatedly. Your donation will provide at least 50 children/families to enjoy books of their own choosing in the privacy of their homes. They will participate in a reading day marathon and leave with 2 books for their own library. Our Reading Day Marathon will take place on September 28th, 2013.
